A test alert was sent to every mobile phone in the UK, an estimated 60 million devices, on 23 April. But MPs heard how five million users on the Three network did not receive the test alert. Roger Hargreaves, director of Cobra, the government's emergencies committee, said technical issues had been fixed so the system was ready for use.

Tupac police seize hard drives and laptops at house // Las Vegas police searching for evidence in the unsolved 1996 murder of Tupac Shakur were targeting an alleged gang member's home, a warrant says. The home searched on Monday belongs to Duane Keith Davis, 60, said to have been inside a car carrying the gunman. Mr Davis has previously denied any involvement, but has also spoken about being at the scene. No arrests have been made in the case.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing life as we know it, but for digital artist Greg Rutkowski it is causing big problems. He said his name had been used as a prompt in AI tools that generate art more than 400,000 times since September 2022 - but without his consent. When he checked, his name had been used as a prompt more times than the artists Pablo Picasso and Leonardo da Vinci.

Virgin Money to shut a third of its UK bank branches // Virgin Money will close 39 of its UK banks as fewer people use bricks and mortar branches and move to online banking, the firm said. The news comes after several High Street banks including Lloyds and Halifax have shut branches. The Unite union said "access to a bank and cash is a fundamental need" for local High Streets. Virgin Money said the closures amount to a third of its banks and 255 workers will be at risk of redundancy.
No-fault evictions leave Plymouth family 'out of control' // A Plymouth family says they are set to move for the 12th time in 20 years because of current housing laws. Jessica Whittam, served with a no-fault eviction for her home of three years, said the situation was "out of control" and causing mental health problems. The charity Citizens Advice said mortgage rate increases, higher taxes and proposed reforms to renting laws are causing more landlords to sell up. The government said it was trying to build homes and end no-fault evictions.
Petrol retailers to work on pricing scheme to improve transparency // Petrol retailers are to work with the UK's competition watchdog to set up a scheme to allow motorists to compare live fuel prices online. Supermarkets and major suppliers met Energy Secretary Grant Shapps on Monday after the regulator found drivers were overcharged due to weak competition. It found annual supermarket margins on fuel had increased by 6p per litre between 2019 and 2022. Mr Shapps said the new scheme would allow motorists to find the best deals.
