Lords debate Illegal Migration Bill until 4am // A debate on the Illegal Migration Bill in the House of Lords continued until 4.16am on Thursday morning. There was criticism from some peers about the late hours, with one Labour peer describing it as "disgraceful". Â The bill, aimed at stopping people crossing the Channel in small boats, has already passed the Commons but has run into strong opposition from peers as they continue detailed debate. The legislation gives ministers the power to remove anyone arriving in the UK illegally, and migrants would be barred from claiming asylum. Instead they would be detained and removed, either to Rwanda or another "safe country".
Donald Trump indicted over classified documents case // Former US President Donald Trump has been charged over his handling of classified documents after he left the White House. Mr Trump, 76, faces seven charges including unauthorised retention of classified files, US media reported. The charges are not yet public. It is the second indictment of Mr Trump and the first ever federal indictment of a former president. He is campaigning to make a return to the White House in 2024. Legal experts say the indictment will not limit Mr Trump's ability to run for the presidency again.
Egypt bans Dutch archaeologists over exhibition linking Beyonce and Rihanna to Queen Nefertiti // A Dutch museum says its archaeologists have been banned from carrying out excavations at a key Egyptian site over an exhibition exploring the influence of ancient Egypt on black musicians. The National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden said Egyptian authorities had accused it of "falsifying" history through its showcase of work by artists including Beyoncé, Nas and Miles Davis. It called the argument "unfounded" and expressed disappointment at the ban.

Holly Willoughby returns to This Morning after Phillip Schofield's exit // Holly Willoughby has said she feels "shaken, troubled and let down" as she returned to ITV's This Morning. The presenter's appearance on Monday's show was her first since the departure of her co-host Phillip Schofield. Willoughby addressed viewers directly and said it felt "very strange indeed sitting here without Phil". French Open 2023 results: Miyu Kato wins mixed doubles title after disqualification from women's event // Japan's Miyu Kato won the French Open mixed doubles title four days after what she called an "unjust" disqualification for hitting a ball girl with a ball in the women's event. Kato and Germany's Tim Puetz beat Bianca Andreescu of Canada and New Zealand's Michael Venus 4-6 6-4 10-6. On Sunday, Kato and Indonesia's Aldila Sutjiadi were disqualified from the women's doubles tournament.
Jim Hines: First sprinter to run 100m in under 10 seconds dies // US sprinter Jim Hines, the first man to run the 100m in under 10 seconds, has died at the age of 76. He broke the record in 1968 when he recorded a hand-timed 9.9 seconds at the US Championships. Hines then broke his own record shortly after while winning gold at the 1968 Olympics, where an electronic timer in Mexico City recorded him at 9.95. His record held for nearly 15 years until Calvin Smith ran a time of 9.93 in 1983.
More pain for renters as landlords look to sell up // Rising interest rates are putting pressure on landlords, pushing some to consider selling up, surveyors say. In turn, that could further squeeze the availability of rental properties and raise costs for tenants, according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Some landlords are also considering their future due to proposals for a ban on no-fault evictions in England. RICS said that "storm clouds have gathered" over the UK housing market.
New business council launched to rival crisis-hit CBI // A new business lobby council has been formed, boasting some of the UK's largest companies as its founding partners. The Business Council has been launched by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) in a bid to "design and drive the future of the British economy". Heathrow, BP, IHG Hotels & Resorts and Drax are among its new members. It comes as the troubled CBI faces a crunch vote on its future after it was mired in serious sexual allegations.
Nottinghamshire strawberry grower stops production due to cash crisis // A family farm that has been producing soft fruits for 75 years has said rising costs have forced it to stop growing berries. Starkey's Fruit, near Southwell, in Nottinghamshire, said it has recently lost traditional sources of seasonal workers. Suzanna Starkey said wages had gone up and, along with low prices from buyers, this made the business unsustainable. The farm will remain open and produce other fruit, such as Bramley apples.
