NHS Wales: Doctors tell health minister to prepare for strike // Doctors have given notice to the Welsh government to brace itself for strike action. The British Medical Association (BMA) Wales wrote to Health Minister Eluned Morgan to tell her it was disappointed at the outcome of pay talks. It told the health minister it was entering into a formal dispute with the Welsh government and would be balloting doctors about industrial action. The Welsh government said it was disappointed by news of the ballot.
Hackney mayor Philip Glanville suspended over photo with arrested councillor // Mayor of Hackney Philip Glanville has been suspended by the Labour Party after a photo showed him at a social event with an ex-councillor arrested over child abuse images. Tom Dewey was arrested on 29 April 2022 and a social media photo shows him with Mr Glanville at a Eurovision party on 14 May the same year. Dewey later admitted three counts of possessing indecent images of children. Mr Glanville said he had not known of the "full extent" of the allegations.
Covid inquiry: Emails of former Welsh NHS staff deleted // Welsh NHS emails that could have been provided as evidence to the Covid inquiry have been deleted by mistake. Inactive accounts used by staff who no longer work in NHS Wales or who have moved to different organisations have been wiped. The news alarmed Plaid Cymru, which warned crucial information on Wales' pandemic response may never see the light of day. An NHS IT organisation said it was working on recovering the data.

Blackswan is currently the only K-pop girl group without any Korean members that has made its debut in South Korea. As the genre continues to globalise, the girl group has become part of a growing conversation about the definition of K-pop - and whether they fall within it.
Adele defends fan who was told to sit down at Las Vegas concert // An Adele fan has thanked the star for "standing up for me" after she paused a concert on Saturday when she saw a security guard telling him to sit down. The singer was playing as part of her Las Vegas residency but stopped while performing Water Under the Bridge. The male audience member was singing along enthusiastically when another fan sitting behind him and a security guard told him he was blocking the view. Adele spotted that and paused the song, telling the guard to "leave him alone".
The Idol: HBO show cancelled after one season // TV drama The Idol - which had some of the worst reviews of the year - has been cancelled. The music industry satire, starring Lily-Rose Depp and Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye, was blasted by critics when it was released. Audiences were also unimpressed, and rumours of the show's cancellation began before its finale had even aired. Studio HBO has now officially confirmed that The Idol won't be getting a second season.
Wolves sign midfielder Tommy Doyle on loan from Manchester City // Wolves have signed midfielder Tommy Doyle on a season-long loan from Manchester City with an option to buy for £4.3m. The deal includes a 50% sell-on clause for City if the deal for the 21-year-old is made permanent. Doyle spent last season on loan at Sheffield United and helped the club earn promotion to the Premier League. He previously spent time on loan during the 2021-22 campaign with Hamburg and Cardiff City. Doyle was also part of the England squad which won the European Under-21 Championship earlier this summer.
Eddie Jones: RFU to blame for England's poor form, says Australia head coach // England's poor form is down to the RFU not producing enough quality players, says Australia head coach Eddie Jones. England lost to Fiji for the first time last week - their third defeat in four before next week's World Cup in France. Head coach Steve Borthwick has faced criticism, but former boss Jones says the blame lies elsewhere.
Danielle McGahey: Transgender cricketer set to play in women's T20 international for Canada // Canada's Danielle McGahey is set to become the first transgender cricketer to play in an official international match. McGahey has been included in Canada's squad for a qualifying tournament on the pathway to the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup in Bangladesh. The 29-year-old opening batter has fulfilled all of the eligibility criteria the International Cricket Council (ICC) has for male-to-female transgender players before the event in Los Angeles from 4-11 September. McGahey's participation comes despite other sports - including athletics, cycling, swimming and both codes of rugby - banning transgender women from taking part in elite women's competition.
Ukraine war: UK arms giant BAE Systems sets up local business // UK defence giant BAE Systems has set up a business in Ukraine and signed deals to help ramp up supplies of weapons and equipment to Kyiv. The firm said the move will allow it to work directly with Ukraine to explore potential partners and ultimately produce light artillery there. BAE has made much of the arms the UK and other nations have sent to Ukraine. Since the Russian invasion in February 2022, Britain has become a major defence supplier to Ukraine.
Burger King faces legal claim over size of Whopper // Burger King must face a lawsuit that alleges it makes its Whopper burger appear larger on its menus than it is in reality, a US judge has ruled. The lawsuit accuses the fast food giant of misleading customers by showing the burger with a meatier patty and ingredients that "overflow over the bun". "The plaintiffs' claims are false," Burger King told the BBC. Rivals McDonald's and Wendy's are facing a similar lawsuit in the US.
Wilko: New bid emerges for stricken retail chain // A fresh rescue bid for Wilko has emerged as efforts to save the retail chain continue. Private equity firm M2 Capital has confirmed it has made a £90m bid for the business, and has pledged to retain all employees' jobs for two years. The bid by M2, first reported by the Guardian, is one of several offers being considered by administrators. Wilko fell into administration earlier this month, putting 12,500 jobs and 400 stores at risk.
